Chief executive officer

The true cornerstone of MECA's success has always been the exceptional team behind our operations. The synergy within our MECA family has been nothing short of inspirational. Each member has brought their unique strengths and talents to the table, working with a level of collaboration that magnifies our collective impact. It is their unwavering dedication, creativity, and empathy that have fueled the growth of our youth programs and the expansion of our Community and Religious Leaders Forum. The team's efforts have not only enhanced our support for the Pacific Islander and African Australian communities but have also cemented the value of unity and familial spirit within our organisation. It is through their contributions that MECA stands as the multicultural centre of excellence.

PROGRAMS MANAGER

MECA has been instrumental in shaping my journey of settlement from India to this new homeland. The enriching experiences at MECA, both personally and professionally, have allowed me to contribute meaningfully to our communities through the continuous and emerging initiatives of the organisation. Collaborating with my dedicated team, I address community challenges collectively, aligning with MECA's mission to empower individuals, families, and communities. Together, I strive to cultivate resilience, self-determination, and sustainable positive change.

This year has been incredibly busy for both MECA's staff and myself, and it's been nothing short of amazing. Our commitment to prioritizing service quality over quantity has been unwavering, and it's something we take great pride in. At MECA, we consider ourselves a close-knit family, and we view our work not just as a job but as a responsibility to our dedicated staff and our valued clients. When we reflect on our accomplishments, we don't measure our success by the number of clients served. Instead, we take immense pride in the positive impact we've had. Despite surpassing our expectations in terms of the number of cases, our staff has consistently delivered services with genuine compassion and care, transcending cultural backgrounds. It's been a year filled with meaningful achievements and heartwarming moments, and we couldn't be happier with the results of our collective efforts.

Bilingual caseWOKER

As a caseworker, I had some memorable moments this year. I had the privilege of assisting newly arrived clients from Afghanistan and Ukraine who were on temporary visas. Listening to their stories was truly heartwarming, and working with these diverse families enriched my passion, understanding, and ability to support them. Additionally, I encouraged more than 20 Afghan women to enroll in driving and swimming classes, empowering them to become more self-reliant, which was highly rewarding.

Community development

MECA's Youth Mentoring Program has been outstanding this past year! I have had the privilege of taking on this program in the Coordinator position after experiencing the program as a Student Placement from TAFE. I have also gained a lot of skills and have grown confident in myself which has improved my personality. A highlight for me would be seeing the growth of the Young people that we work with as well as sharing my knowledge and experience to the new generation

YOUTH WORKER

The highlight of my year has been fostering happiness and motivation among the youth. I am passionate about encouraging individuals to embrace their full potential and witnessing the transformative impact they've had, especially within MECA's various programs. As I reflect on this year, the collective achievements in the youth mentoring, driving program, Cultural exchange, and soccer initiatives have underscored the unlimited potential within each young person I have worked with. I am grateful to have been a part of these transformative experiences and look forward to continuing the journey of empowerment and growth with the remarkable young individuals at MECA.

YOUTH WORKER

This has so far been a great first year for me at MECA. I was introduced to a field of work that is completely new to me and I was given the opportunity to work alongside wonderful colleagues. The highlight of the year for me would be the positive contributions that my outstanding team and I were able to make to the lives of young people, who are an integral part of our Youth Mentoring Program. I sincerely hope that we can maintain this success and keep growing together as we continue to support the community.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

One of the major highlights for me this year has been working with student placements and having mentoring conversations about some of the opportunities I've observed for innovation in social work and community development. As an artist with a passion for youth development, another major highlight has been the design and launch of our Lyricist Lab event, which provides an opportunity for young local artists to develop their creative literacy skills and showcase their talents in a live performance setting. There have been other highlights as well but these are two examples that align directly with my personal and professional interests in helping develop the next generation of change-makers in the community!
